“Working to support the aspirations of our amazing students is extremely gratifying as is working with our incredibly dedicated, “roll up your sleeves” Advisory Board. Smart, sophisticated people who care about making the built environment attractive, sustainable and productive are a heck of a lot of fun to be around.” – Suzanne Cartwright
Suzanne is the Associate Director of the Center and her role is supporting the Center’s relationship with the real estate industry and the community. In the first instance that involves working closely with the Runstad Advisory Board and its committees. It also involves working with students and employers to establish internships and place students in permanent employment after graduation. She manages Runstad’s mentorship programs with young professionals and board members as well as the Affiliate Fellows program.
Suzanne prides herself on discovering new ways students can bring their skills to bear on community challenges – for example a partnership with the Urban Land Institute Northwest allows Runstad students to staff ULI Technical Assistance Panels, working alongside industry professionals to address real estate and land use issues in a focused one or two day intensive team effort.
Suzanne spent 24 years in Washington DC in transportation, real estate and land use policy, including six years with the Urban Land Institute as the Director of Community Outreach. In that role she worked with top industry leaders in communities around the country to build consensus around how regions should grow and to support smart, sustainable, efficient development strategies.
In her off hours from Runstad, Suzanne enjoys all the Northwest has to offer in terms of the incredibly rich live music scene- everything from blues to roots/Americana to country (alt and otherwise) to classical. She has also been known to kick up her heels with a little tango, two-step or waltz.
