Clifton Stratton

Clifton is pursuing a Master of Science in Real Estate with a focus in real estate development. Clifton has a strong background in real estate, having worked for the past five years as an attorney in commercial real estate transactions, and prior to that as a licensed real estate agent in college. Clifton is still a licensed attorney and real estate agent, although he intends to use his time at the Runstad Department of Real Estate to transition from the practice of law to the business of real estate development.

Born and raised in Seattle, Clifton attended Lakeside School and subsequently Trinity College in Connecticut before returning to the University of Washington School of Law, where he graduated with honors, Order of the Coif. For the past several years, Clifton practiced law in Seattle at Ryan Swanson in the firm’s Real Estate, Development & Finance Group where he represented a range of clients from local developers and businesses to publicly traded development companies and REITs. Clifton worked on a variety of real estate transactions including property acquisitions and sales, lease agreements for retail, industrial and office space, loan agreements for a variety of loan structures including construction loans and permanent secured financings, and other transactions involved in the acquisition and development real property.  Through this practice, Clifton became increasingly interested in the work his clients were doing in contributing to the city and region’s urban environment and decided to pursue a Master of Science in Real Estate in order to gain a better understanding of the business and economics of real estate development.

Clifton’s education at the Runstad Department of Real Estate has been instrumental in this regard. It has complemented his legal background with a better understanding of the financial considerations and principles underlying real estate development. It has also inspired in him an appreciation for the relationship between people and the built environment and the role that real estate development plays in creating and influencing our urban environment and daily lives. Clifton is greatly looking forward to pursuing a career in real estate development and finding an opportunity that will allow him to contribute to the continuing development of Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.
