The ULI Spring Meeting took place in Seattle this year from May 2-4. The combination of ULI’s stellar growth, the strength of the national real estate sector, and the Seattle market in particular lead to record setting attendance. Amid this flurry of activity, Runstad MSRE students including Taryn Rehn, Will Jaquier, Fred Levine, Will Mentor, Fred Hines, and Korbinian Wenzl as well as MSRE alums Jiachen Li, Alastair Townsend and Lori Shannon. I had the opportunity to attend the conference in their own local market.
Taryn Rehn emphasized the extraordinary value and fun of catching up with associates, mentors, and sharing project success stories and lessons learned. In one of her favorite sessions, developers including Lake Union Partners presented case studies on successful adaptive reuse projects. She met professionals from around the country who work in diverse fields including community outreach, politics, banking, and mining. Korbinian Wenzl and Will Jaquier were student speakers at a council meeting, presenting trends driving change in the real estate industry.
The conference included some memorable moments including a keynote interview with former Vice President Joe Biden. He shared his optimistic take on the economy, the opportunities our country has at this point in history, and thoughts on leadership. Another distinct event was the cocktail reception at the Amazon Doppler building, which is typically not accessible to the public. Overall it a was a high energy, highly engaged group who enjoyed touring the booming regional real estate market with Seattle’s urban and natural beauty as the backdrop.
